SPLA Begins Redeployment of Forces

[Juba, South Sudan, TCT] As part of implementation of the recent signed peace agreement, Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Army [SPLA] today launch redeployment of its forces from Juba to a radius 25 kilometers in Mogiri Payam of Mangala County of Central Equatorial State. Speaking to journalists in Giada[Juba Military barrack] Major General Samson Mabior Lual, said they have started executing implementation on security arrangement by redeploying 250 soldiers [compose of men and women]. “Our people of South Sudan are longing for peace. This is why we are serious on redeploying forces as requested on the agreement of the resolution of the conflict in the Republic of South Sudan. We have now started implementation of security arrangements,” Said Maj.General, Samson Mabior Lual. He noted that minutes on security arrangement signed in September and November 2015 demand SPLA to redeploy its forces from national capital [Juba] and also within three major towns of Malakal, Bor and Bentiu to a radius of 25kilometers outside capitals. Maj. Gen Lual added this is the first group of SPLA forces to be redeployed since President Salva Kiir and Leader of Sudan people Liberation Movement [SPLM] - in opposition, Dr. Riek Machar signed the agreement on 17th and 26th of August this year. Maj. Gen. Lual explained that the exercise shall continue until the forces are fully redeployed in the country in accordance to the peace accord. According to Gen. Lual, the 25o soldiers are directly going to be redeployed in Mogiri where they will base until others radius of 25kilometers are surveyed. While Col. Philip Auger Panyang, Sudan People’s Liberation Army [SPLA] Spokesman reveals that the exercise is important because it will gears the process of peace implementation that will sees the formation of Transitional Government of National Unity [TGNOU] “The SPLA is practically implementing the redeployment of forces from Juba to outside Juba,” Aguer explains. According to the Agreement on the resolution of the conflict in the Republic of South Sudan [ACRISS] all military forces within Juba shall be redeployed outside a radius of 25kilometers from the center of the national capital beginning from the 30 days after the signing of the agreement and conclusion of security arrangement workshop. South Sudan gain its independent in 2011 from Khartoum after voting in a referendum exercise. The country slid into conflict after President Kiir accused his designated First Vice president Dr. Riek Machar of attempting a fail coup, which Machar continuously deny.
