A manager of Kenya Commercial Bank in Rumbek, Lakes state, has been arrested after a number of customers complained that their money went missing from their accounts.

Trouble for the KCB branch manager started when three customers reported to the police that their money disappeared from their accounts. The customers dragged the manager to the police station demanding to know what had happened to their money.

The TCT spoke to a number of KCB clients who explained what had happened.

“I did not authorize the KCB management to withdraw my money. That is why I have come to open a case against the KCB management so that they tell me who has withdrawn my money, which is equivalent to 36,000 pounds (South Sudanese). My case is against the management of KCB, Rumbek,” John Mabeny said.

Zachariah Dhuor said, “I found my account with 41,546 pounds. Then I withdrew 14,400 and my balance was supposed to be 27,140 pounds. Instead, I found my account had gone down to 2,111 pounds. So I asked the tellers who were working what happened and they responded that they didn’t know. We are wondering, what is going on in KCB and how the money disappeared in the accounts without anybody knowing.”

A business lady called Achol Wade said she lost 164,000 South Sudanese pounds in the account.

“I have 100,000 kept in the account...Yesterday when I checked my account to find out the interest at the end of the year, I found that all 100,000 pounds had been taken and the balance is only 1,600 pounds. I checked another account which had 64,000 pounds and found only 1,200 pounds in the account. I am a businesswoman, not working with the government and I want my money back from KCB.”

Attempts to reach the KCB bank branch officials in Rumbek were unsuccessful as they were not picking their calls. The name of the manager who was arrested was not immediately available.
