Uganda’s representatives at the ongoing CECAFA Kagame Cup will face off against South Sudan’s Atlabara FC in the last eight of the competition. The competition is taking place in Kigali, Rwanda.

This follows their 1-0 victory over home team APR FC in their penultimate game of the group game played at Kigali regional stadium, Nyamirambo, which saw them pip the Rwanda side to the summit of group B.

The home side dominated possession for the entire parts of the game but failed to break down a resilient Ugandan side that opted to sit back and play on the counter, a move that repaid as they saw out the game.

In an earlier game in the same group, Kenya’s Gor Mahia who were already out of the tournament extinguished Djibouti’s Telecom’s hopes of snatching a place in the quarters after holding them to a 2-2 draw.

The Djibouti side went ahead in the first half through Aboubaker Djamal before Timothy Otieno leveled matters for the Kenyan champions eight minutes after restart.

Freddy Adasango put them into the lead again with ten minutes left on the clock but Musa Muhammad netted a 90th minute equaliser for K’Ogalo.

The results mean KCC FC finish top of group B with nine points followed by APR FC on seven, while Atletico finish third on six points.

The quarter final matches will be played as follows: On Tuesday August 19, APR of Rwanda will play against another Rwandese team Rayon. The same day, Police of Rwanda will face Atletico of Burundi.

On Wednesday August 20, KCC FC of Uganda will play against South Sudan side Atlabara, while Tanzanian side Azam will face it off with El-Merreikh of Sudan.

Meanwhile, CECAFA has announced that this year’s Senior Challenge Cup will be staged in Ethiopia from November. Kenya’s Harambee Stars are the defending champions after beating Sudan 2-0 in the final of last year’s edition played in Nairobi.

CECAFA has signed a four-year sponsorship deal with pay TV Channel SuperSport, in a sponsorship deal that will see SuperSport being broadcasting Rights holders of both Cecafa Challenge Cup and Kagame Cup.

The 2015 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup will be staged in Rwanda as the country readies to host the 2016 African Nations Championships (Chan) finals.
