The higher appeals committee of the South Sudan Football Federation has reversed a ban on a group of people, accused of causing disunity in the association.

The committee has dismissed the case against the 12 persons, including members of the football association, on grounds that there was not enough evidence to link them to the charges.

The Secretary General of the federation, Mr. William Akot, told media that the decision to drop the case will be communicated by the association’s board of directors, even though the results were already out.

“The 12 people who were banned from football appealed to the South Sudan Football Association and their appeal was forwarded to the appeals committee, but even before that, there was already talk going on between the 12 people and the SSFA,” he said.

The federation slapped a ban on the 12 in December last year, on accusations that they were inciting the public to agitate for changes within the association. The ban included restrictions from attending matches, speaking to the media and engaging in any football activity.

Meanwhile, the football federation has announced that it has handed out licenses to coaches who completed a professional training course.

More than 70 football coaches have received ‘Grade C licenses’ which allow them to officiate in regional matches. They went through two weeks of training in September last year, facilitated by the Confederation of African Football.

“All the 70 coaches passed the exams and they were given C license. So far we have 72 coaches who are licensed by CAF, 1A license, 1B license and 70 C licenses…FIFA has given us eight opportunities, four referees in the center and four referees as assistance referees,” explained Akot.
