Government declares 3 days to mourn victims of fuel tanker explosion in Maridi

[Juba, South Sudan, TCT]  The council of ministers in its regular meeting shared by President Salva Kiir Mayardit resolves and declared a three days mourning to the victims who lose their lives in Maridi fuel tanker explosion on Wednesday in Western Equatoria State.

“The flags at all level of government are expected to fly half mask from today and until the ends of three days,” Said Michael Makuei Lueth the National Minister of Information and Broadcasting while addressing reporters at Cabinet affairs Building.

Minister Makuei told the media that the three days mourning period will not stop people from doing their normal work but means that the institutions to put their flags to fly half mask until the ends of the three days.

Makuei who is also a government spokesperson explains that the president and the cabinet ministers said the people who lose their lives in the tragic incident are South Sudanese and therefore the government express their heartfelt condolence to the families, relatives and friends of the victims. Admitting that the country is sad and shock by this great lose to the country.

Makuei confirmed to the media that the total death tolls reported to the government from the local authorities in the area is up to 186 deaths.

“The number of casualties may be higher than that, but we were not able to get the exact figures,” Said Makuei

Minister Makuei said the government did not receive the information on time due to lack of network in the area where incident occurred.  

A fuel tanker overturned between Mambe and Maridi exploded when fuel gut fire from unknown source.

However, on Thursday this week the caretaker Governor of western equatoria state, Patrick Raphael Zamoi first declared three days of mourning in the state.
