Eight girls’ football teams participated in the tournament which culminated in the final play on Saturday evening in which Rainbow FC won in a 1 – 0 victory over City Stars, they were the champions of Mayor’s cup of January 2015.

Speaking to TCT after the final game, Mandevu Simon the coach of Rainbow FC appreciates the team and partners for the support towards the team, which led to his first achievement of a trophy as a coach.

“I’m really very happy because it is not easy to train girls, and let me tell you that this is not enough and I think we can make more”, he said.

Meanwhile, Malish David, City stars FC head coach, welcomed the result and promised to work hard for the success of the team.

“In football, things are always like that. We are expecting one of three things; to win, lose or draw. So, I lost the game and next time, I will be able to strengthen my line up”, Malish said.

Taban Khasim, Business Executive Groups-BEG Africa official, said BEG Africa will continue to fulfill its social responsibility by maintaining support to the young people in Yei and
Lainya counties on sports. He called on the business community to team up to mobilize resources to strengthen youth activities in the State.

“So long you support us; we shall support you all the time. I will urge the small businesses to come together to prosper”, he said.

Yei River County Acting Education Director Rev. Philip Taban Issa, said sports is one of the nation’s important focus of developing the youth. He appealed to the people of Yei and
organizations to rise up and empower girl’s participation in the sports activities.

“The way they (girls) play has no difference with how boys play”, he compared.

According to Rev. Philip,many traditions have been holding the idea that girls’ are not allowed participation in sports activities.

“Girls were not allowed completely. But now the nation is growing”, he noted.

The Head of Yei Local Football Association-YLFA, Mr. John James Wani, announce that South Sudan football association will organize a premier league for girls’ this year, so there is a need for them to work hard and adopt playing with football materials. He urged the government to consider allocating a playing ground during survey of town.

Meanwhile, Kujo Beneth is the Assistant Commissioner of culture, youth and sports in Yei River County on behalf of government he assured citizens and sports actors of government’s commitment to support youth activities including sports.

He said Yei is mostly having only playing ground for sports activities, which is the Freedom square, where events sometimes interrupt sports schedules. He promised that they have a plan to meet sports actors and chiefs to tackle the challenge of playing grounds.

“We have a program of improving this playing ground”, he said.

Sport is one of the youth activities that united young people and build peace among themselves. When young people are engage in the sports they do not have idle times to think
evils.
