[Juba, South Sudan, TCT] - South Sudan President Salva Kiir on Monday replaced minister of finance and economic planning in a presidential decree aired on the only national television amid hyperinflation caused by the five years conflict.

President Kiir replaced Stephen Dhieu Dau with the former first undersecretary in the ministry of Finance, Salvatore Garang Mabirodit. He had served as a Technical Advisor in the Ministry of Trade prior to his appointment.

“I Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan do hereby issue for the appointment of Salavator Garang Mabiordit as the new minister of finance [effective] March 12, 2018,” reads the decree issued at 8 pm local time.

President Kiir did not explain his move for relieving Dhieu or make any new assignment to one of his longest serving ministers, since the world’s newest nation gained her independence from Sudan in 2011.

In the series of presidential decrees read on the national broadcasting television known as South Sudan Broadcasting Cooperation (SSBC), Kiir also appointed Erjok Bullen Geu as the new deputy commissioner general of the National Revenue Authority. He fired the deputy chief of South Sudan defense forces for operations, Lt. General Marial Chanuong Yol without a replacement.
