An investment company in Yei has agreed to sponsor Yei Municipal Football Club through provision of the team’s requirements. The club was founded in 2004 by a group of committed players, and it plays in the first division.

Green World Investment Company Limited has said it will support the club for an unspecified period of time.

The company’s manager James Lokudu Elijah said the company will help the club with the necessary requirements including signing of new players, uniforms, transport and footballs, among others.

He cautioned players to work in unity so that the company will continue supporting them at the county and national level.

“We are starting with our small effort that we have by all means…and then later the government will give us support,” he told players and officials after training at Immanuel Model playing ground on Monday evening.

Mr. Lokudu said the development of young and upcoming talent is not for the government only, but rather requires a collective role.

John Moro Yakobo, the company’s assistant manager said the company will create Green World Investment League to bring together different teams within the municipality.

“The first step is for the teams within the municipality, and then we will plan for the county,” he said.

The company in its initial support donated footballs, a trophy, and two sets of uniforms branded with the company’s name.

Welcoming the sponsorship, the team’s manager, Dada Martin Samuel, appreciated Green World management for choosing the club, adding that the club has players with a lot of potential but needs funding to develop the team.

“I am very happy for this initiative. This team broke out from Shooting Stars. The players were playing for Shooting Stars but after the collapse of that team, they came up with an initiative that we should form a team which is Yei Municipal,” Dada told TCT.

But Dada said the club will use the old name Yei Municipal, adding that the team will not change its name even with a new sponsor.

“We have seen that changing the name is not good. As Green World has come, we are just going to design their name,” he added.
