[Nasir, South Sudan, TCT] Renovation works have begun in earnest at Nasir Main Hospital in Latjor State, according to official reports.

It is the only general civil hospital in the state and supports residents of close to three states. The facility stopped operations in 2013 following the conflict that left massive destruction.

State Information Minister Gatkuoth Bim said locals contributed towards the on-going renovation.

“The hospital is under renovation as planned by the state government. The plan is to construct and rebuild our main hospital. Basically, the funds come from the community in coordination with local NGOs that are supporting us to do the project,” Bim said.

He said the state government will support health workers who commit to work there even if the working conditions are not favourable.

“The hospital is playing an increasingly important role in people’s lives because many people are suffering from various diseases in the state,” Bim said.
